Sample exercise – Action Painting
ACTION PAINTING – JUST KEEP MOVING!
In this exercise, you spread the paint directly onto the paper or canvas using a variety of non-art tools like a straw, dishwashing sponge, a window squeegee, a putty knife, or anything else that’s lying around the house. You can also find things like stones, sticks, and branches in your backyard that may make some interesting marks when you dip them in paint. Using these unusual tools, you can pull or push the paint around spontaneously to make textures, shapes, and patterns as you did in the preceding exercises.
I love this one. Echos of Franz Kline
